When the court clears and everyone leaves the gym, Bird walks out onto the floor, alone with a basketball getting ready to work. He quickens his pace from a slow walk to a jog and then to a run. Stopping, starting, darting, spinning.. all alone...
The beauty of Larry Bird is how he wasn't given the natural skills of a GREAT ATHLETE. Bird's greatest skill was his work ethic and willingness to hustle. He couldn't jump out of the gym like Jordan, he couldn't score 70 goals like Gretzky. What he could do was practice, run, hustle, dig, and listen to his coaches.
He made everyone around him better. His hustle and great attitude made everyone on the team work as hard as he did. Most of all Larry Bird was so special because he came from a small town with very little oppurtunity. He proved that no matter where you are from and what your natural skill level is you can become one of the greatest of all time with HARD WORK and the willingness to learn from your Coaches."
I hope you can all see a piece of yourself in Larry Bird? I know that Rachael and I can. We have so much faith in each and everyone of you and we beleive in each and everyone of you. Belive in yourself b/c we do.
